Choosing An RC Boat

RC boats are designed with different types of hulls and though there are many different kinds the three most popular ones are the Deep V (for beginners), the Catamaran (for intermediate modelers) and the Hydroplane (advanced users).

Due to the hull design on the Deep V boats, they are better suited to be more stable in still water, and especially in choppy or rough water. The drawback to the Deep V design, however, is it creates a lot of drag, causing these types of boats to run at lower speeds.  Perfect for a beginner, just getting into RC boats.

The Catamarans are dual hull boats, as opposed to the mono hulled Deep V, and thus create less drag.  They go faster, but are less stable and require more skill to operate.

The most advanced model is the Hydroplane, with tunnel hulls are designed for top speeds. They are difficult to handle and control in the water and are reserved for experienced modelers.
