To help prolong engine life and maintain engine health in an RC boat, it is important to put the engine through an “initial break-in” stage for a minimum of 3 fuel tanks. Make sure to use high quality and only NEW fuel for the duration of the break-in, with at least 18% oil and a low percentage of nitro, to ensure that the engine does not overheat.
Additionally, invest in an in-line filter to filter out dirt and other impurities in fuel. It is also important to NOT run your engine at full throttle during break-in, at most running it at half-throttle. Before running your boat, remove the glow plug from the engine and pour a couple of drops of Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinder, which will impede the possibility of a dry initial start and maintain engine longevity and health. After the break-in period, you are free to push the engine full throttle and enjoy your boat!
